Overview

 SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Logistics Center Team Leader assists the Distribution Shift Manager in leading assigned functional work groups in distribution to get the right product, to the right place, at the right time.  A Team Leader requires knowledge of our customers, as well as shipping, receiving, and inventory control procedures.  This position directs a large and diverse team of people and will require interacting with management as well as the hourly workforce.  This position demands leadership skills, technical skills, people skills, and a strong desire to demonstrate and promote company policy and procedure to our team while assisting them in the best practices to service our internal/external customers.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supporting and assisting Distribution Shift Manager to lead the shift safely, accurately, and efficiently to meet daily goals.
  • Ensuring the hourly workforce always remains busy and reporting non-compliance.
  • Leading work groups by maintaining a professional and helpful attitude in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Assigning, releasing, and monitoring work to an assigned labor group and directing the group to complete the workload as scheduled in conjunction with the Distribution Shift Manager.
  • Understanding, following, and promoting all Logistics Center safety and quality rules.
  • Notifying Distribution Shift Manager promptly of customer service, inventory, or partner issues occurring on the floor.
  • Notifying Distribution Shift Manager promptly of individuals not meeting the required expectations or not following proper procedures especially in regard to productivity, housekeeping, and safety.
  • Reporting all accidents/incidents or near miss accidents happening on the floor to the Distribution Shift Manager promptly.
  • Assisting with accident/incident investigations and reporting by being impartial, accurate, and detail oriented.
  • Understand and utilize many programs within a Warehouse Management System.
  • Maintaining knowledge of Value-Added Services required by customers.
  • Maintaining the Logistics Center in accordance with the Supply Chain Excellence Audit standards.
  • Understanding and performing any Material Handler tasks as requested.
  • Cultivating Shurtape culture and values by promoting communication, teamwork, and respectful treatment of all individuals.
  • Handling sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Motivate, lead and overall assist many members of the team to achieve department goals.
  • Participate in coordinating the daily manpower requirements to meet workload demand by bringing recommendations to the Distribution Shift Manager.
  • Prepare shipping bill of ladings and understand the steps leading up to closing a trailer in a warehouse management system.
  • Receive in freight and understand steps leading up to verifying the purchase order.
  • Problem solve and communicate issues in a timely manner.
  • Understand and perform any of the Material Handler tasks as needed including reports.
  • Cycle count and adjust inventory while demonstrating a strong grasp for inventory lock codes, statuses, and lot codes.
  • Communicate, teach, and perform Value Added Services as requested for internal/external customers.
  • Find and recommend tasks to anyone who is idle or needs work.
  • Understand, stay current, and promote department procedures, goals, and metrics including ShurShare categories such as fill rate, on-time, cycle count accuracy, and productivity goals.
  • Investigate safety incidents and understand reporting procedures.
  • Promote good housekeeping and report non-compliance.
  • Assist DC Shift Manager in completion of Logistics logs and shift documentation.
  • Clean minor Hazmat spills if necessary, according to Material Safety Data Sheet guidelines.
  • Perform mock Supply Chain Excellence Audits as requested by DC Shift Manager.
  • Participate in one or more of the following: Train-the-Trainer for equipment, Safety Committee, Evacuation Team including fire extinguisher training, First Aid, and/or IATA/IMO certification
  • Perform several special projects as assigned by the Logistics Center Manager or Distribution Shift Manager to support the needs of the business.
  • Log into the proper LM codes for the function being performed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong communication, leadership, problem solving, and conflict management skills (horizontal and vertical).
  • Demonstrates outward support of the company and management team.
  • Able to direct and perform multiple functions and maintain professionalism within the fast-paced Logistics Center.
  • Able to accurately and timely solve inventory issues and run reports in a warehouse management system including using a PC.
  • Able to operate pallet jack, narrow aisle, forklift, order selector and other equipment...
  • Able to read and understand shipping and receiving bill of ladings, logs, worksheets, and workload schedules.
  • Able to support the Distribution Shift Manager and handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Must be able to adapt to new procedures and promote a positive outlook to the team.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • High School or GED equivalent.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Work requires hearing, mental and visual attention.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs., able to bend and lift frequently, and able to work around dust.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment.  Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.
